I read an article recently by Tina Kinney Clarke about signs you were a witch in a past life. In it was listed six classic fears and phobias: you do witchy things now, you are scared of fire, you have strange dreams doing witchy things, you struggle with the connection between your mind and body, you have a hard time speaking your truth, you have an irrational fear of anything witchy…

And I found myself agreeing to all but one. If they had claustrophobia and fear of heights she’d have about nailed all my irrational fears and phobias! And yes, I’ve had countless witchy lives and countless burnings, disembowelments and being ripped apart! These lives are a part of me and any intuitive I meet feels the witchy energy instantly. I’ve resolved many of the fears and phobias – look at me speaking my truth openly!

Delving into past lives that hold clear links with your current life fears and phobias is incredibly healing. Awareness is often all that is needed to bring issues and patterns into perspective, to release blocks and to resolve the past life. Discovering your past lives assist in healing physical or emotional issues or open up new possibilities in your current life. You learn the reasons for choices made and can heal any emotional distress or trauma, enabling you to move on with your life unimpeded.

You can also unlock your true potential. Remembering a past life inevitably opens up new possibilities in this life, with energy freed up with old self-limiting beliefs and outmoded patterns released. This creates a freedom and wisdom that you are more than this small life, more than this one life. The hard-won soul gifts and soul learning accumulated from past lives can be integrated into your current life to your advantage.

Unresolved physical or emotional patterns in this life may be reflections of patterns from past lives. Fearful and painful experiences held within traps your energy and affects the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of your life.

These old, outmoded patterns of behavior trigger unconscious actions and reactions even if you consciously want to change them. It’s like travelling on a dirt road you’ve travelled on so many times there’s deep, deep ruts where your wheels have gone. It takes effort not to be drawn into those ruts, to follow the well-worn path you’ve travelled so many times before.

Learning the original source can help release energies holding the negative patterns and are brought into conscious memory so that they can be acknowledged, healed and released. With awareness, they no longer have a hold on you or your current life, opening space for experiencing health, happiness, self-worth, loving relationships and abundance.

The first step is to acknowledge the trigger – the current life pattern that’s caused you to fall back into the rut. Be gentle on yourself! Its ok that you’ve fallen back into old habits! They are so easy to do- they are familiar. Remember that you need to be your own greatest fan. It’s ok to make mistakes while learning. Admire how brave, resilient or persevering you are. Admire your ability to observe the pattern. Awareness is always the first step towards dissolving a pattern.

Acknowledge that its ok to be fragile, vulnerable, not in control. In order to expand your heart requires a gentleness and a softening. This can be the scariest idea of all!

Self-Limiting Beliefs
It is important to look at past lives in order to remove any old patterns, habits or oaths made that no longer serve you in this lifetime. Your past life may become the source of fears, blocks or phobias due to a vow you made in that life or an oath you made as you left your body for the last time. These beliefs are brought through into your current life, but the source of the vow or path is long forgotten.

We all hold beliefs about ourselves that do not serve us. These beliefs hold us back and prevent us from fully expressing ourselves and attracting happiness and abundance into our lives. 

Most often the lifetimes that arise are traumatic or heartbreaking to explore, but once cleared can make the most difference to your life. Sometimes an awareness of the cause is enough to shift the energy, allowing a breakthrough or healing to occur. For example, if you were drowned in a past life you will have an irrational fear of water or swimming in this life.

Viewing the cycles and patterns of behaviour recurring throughout many lifetimes gives greater perspective on our unique quirks, habits, struggles, fears, choices, hopes and dreams. Pay attention to what strongly attracts or repels you and you will have clues to what went before. It is fascinating how many little quirks can be traced back to one life.

Vows, Oaths or Contracts
A Past Life Reading may reveal vows, oaths or contracts made in past lives. These may no longer serve your highest good and may need to be released. 

If you were a monk or nun in a past life you may have a raft of vows to release, including the vows of chastity and poverty that can wreak havoc in secular life. If you made an oath as you left your body, such as a distraught mother separated from her children “I will always watch over you” will reincarnate with the same souls but may become overprotective and smothering, fearful least something take her children away.

Physical Symptoms
Often the way you died leaves marks on the body in the new incarnation. A traumatic imprint on the energy body is sometimes expressed as a birthmark, scar, a weakness or a disease. It is often important to look at past lives to establish whether this knowledge will assist in healing and release of a disease. For example, a person burnt at the stake in a former life may carry a skin rash or eczema in this life. If you were hung or strangulated in a previous life you may have a birthmark or scar around the neck tracing back to this cause of death.

We cannot carry all the trauma, pain, anger, bitterness, shame, guilt and things we have not dealt with nor forgiven about ourselves and others and raise your vibration. It is impossible. It weighs us down and it makes us sick, literally. Unresolved baggage can even disempower us if we constantly are beating ourselves up, blaming everyone else and ourselves. This creates dis-ease in one form or another.  

The minute the emotional charges are dissolved the symptoms can disappear. The physical body is a wonderful instrument and tell us if we need to tune in and listen.

When past life memory banks are triggered, the physical body can experience pain in places we never had pain before. I have had that happening many times, and had to go into the pain and ask what was triggering. Sometimes when something is calling to be released a physical symptom will appear. Once I tune in and ask for the message or the underlying reason, a past life memory can come up to be looked at. I release that, forgive myself and others, and move into the state of gratitude seeing how this all served my soul.

We have to do this deep inner work in order to be fully integrated.

So the pain is teaching us and we can choose whether to empower ourselves and deal with all that comes to the surface; to take responsibility for our own well-being, including our physical, emotional, mental as well as spiritual well-being.
